Mission: Mars was built by Filament Games for the Boston Museum of Science. In Mission: Mars, the player will build rovers, explore the Martian surface, and embark on missions designed to explain the real life problems facing our engineers and astronauts today.

This was my first professional game outside of my own independent work. This gave me the unique opportunity to work alongside another engineer in addition to a hand full of professionals in their respective fields. Together we pushed the envelop for what can be done in the Roblox Engine, both in respect the technical ability as well as quality of content.

My main objective for Mission: Mars was to build a robust and scalable mission system that could be leveraged when adding things for the player to do. Robustness was extremely important, as I did not know how many missions I would be making or how varied they would be. I also got the opportunity to refine our rovers controllability through the creation of roll over correction, wheelie control, stability control, rear wheel steering, suspension, and various other systems. The resulting vehicle has an almost chaotic yet controllable monster truck-like feel which I believe is one of the best currently on the Roblox platform.

  • Built robust and scalable systems to be leveraged in the creation of multiple missions throughout development.

  • Refined rover controls through the addition of driver's aid systems including: roll over correction, wheelie control, stability control, rear wheel steering, and suspension tuning.

  • Built the accompanying GUI, scoring, and analytics systems attached to the mission systems.
