Frogo is a tiny open world platformer where you must swing your way around Ragamaroo in an attempt to heal your sick friend to save your home! Fight witches, collect potions, and awake the petrified roots of the Demi Tree so you my scour all of Rigamaroo for a cure.

Frogo is my current personal project and picks up where a a prior rope prototype project left off. I've applied a simplified version of those ropes to Frogo's tongue, which the player may use to grab onto things, swing around, or retrieve items. Forces are propagated through the tongue, however the tongue has no slack in it and quickly displaces its connected bodies. This removed the need to account for the tongue's environmental collisions. In addition, Frogo may never be disconnected from his tongue (ouch!), so the considerations for what is connected at each end becomes simpler.

Frogo has also allowed me to expand my artistic ability. I played hundreds of hours of Spyro growing up, and I've made a great effort in trying to capture some of the magic that franchise offered when I first experienced it as a kid. I've been modeling environments and characters in Blender, and for the first time, animating them as well. This is also the first game where I have implemented water and swimming.

I'm excited to continue to delve deeper into Frogo in my spare time and will update this page as progress continues!

  • Refined my ropes simulation into a playable mechanic that allows for complex environment traversal.

  • Modeled, textured, and animated multiple characters and environmental set pieces.

  • Built a rich island environment via Unity's terrain system. A tri-planar shader delivers a retro aesthetic in conjunction with low poly set dressings.
